What are private 1-to-1 swimming lessons?

Private 1-to-1 swimming lessons provide individual instruction with a dedicated swimming teacher, allowing lessons to be fully tailored to your ability, goals, and learning pace. This personalised approach helps swimmers progress faster and build confidence in the water.

Who are private 1-1 swimming lessons suitable for?

Private lessons are suitable for children and adults of all abilities, including complete beginners, nervous swimmers, and those who want to improve their technique or confidence. We only teach adults.

Do you teach complete beginners?

Yes. We regularly teach complete beginners and focus on building water confidence, learning basic swimming skills, and developing strong foundations.

Where do the swimming lessons take place?

Lessons take place at our private pool in a safe and controlled environment. The Circle Spa, Queen Elizabeth St, London, SE1 2JE. You can use our google directions here or on the Contacts page.

How do I book a lesson?

You can book your private swimming lesson, contact us directly to check availability and arrange a suitable time.

How long is each swimming lesson?

Our swimming lessons can be either 30min, 45min or 60 minutes, depending on what length of lesson you choose.

Will I have the same instructor for every lesson?

Yes. Having the same instructor throughout your lessons ensures consistency and faster progress. They understand your ability level, strengths, and areas for improvement, creating a personalised learning plan.

Am I too old to learn how to swim?

Not at all. Adults of all ages learn to swim successfully. Private lessons are designed to work at your pace and help build confidence gradually.

Can you help if I feel nervous in the water?

Absolutely. Many swimmers start lessons feeling nervous. Our instructors work from in the water which helps provide a calm, supportive environment.

Do I need any previous swimming experience?

No experience is required. Lessons are suitable for complete beginners through to intermediate swimmers looking to improve technique.

Are private lessons better than group lessons?

Private lessons offer individual attention, faster progress, and personalised coaching, which many adults find more comfortable than learning in a group.

How many lessons will I need to learn to swim?

It varies from person to person. Some adults feel comfortable after 5–10 60min lessons, while others may take longer depending on their starting point and goals.

We encourage clients not to rush through lessons and to use them sparingly. Think of each lesson as a PT (personal training) session and that the more you practice, the better the results.

Do I need to practice between lessons?

Practicing between lessons as a beginner is crucial to reinforce muscle memory, boost confidence, and prevent forgetting new skills.

How much does a lesson cost?

Private lessons and coaching start at £75.00 per hour at our pool. Lesson packages of 5 or 10 sessions offer a saving. See our Buy Online Page for all length of lessons.

How far in advance can I book?

As soon as possible — popular slots fill quickly. Bookings are made on a first come first serve basis which means you can choose the day and times that suit you.
You can prebook dates in the diary weeks ahead to secure your day and time slot. 

What age groups are your lessons for?

Our private one-to-one swimming lessons are from 16 years upwards and for all standards and abilities.

What days/times do lessons usually take place?

We teach 7 days a week, 

Monday - Friday between 7.30am - 10.00pm

Saturday/Sunday between 8.00am - 8.00pm

What is the size and temperature of your pool?

Pool Depth: 1.3 - 1.5m

Do swimming lessons expire?

All Lessons must be used within 12 months of purchase. If lessons are not used within this period, lessons cannot be refunded or carried forward.

Do I have to be a member of gym to purchase swimming lessons?

No, you do not have to be a member to purchase swimming lessons. Our swimming lessons are available to members and non-members.

Can you help me prepare for open water swimming or a triathlon?

Yes, technique training and endurance work can help prepare for open water swimming and triathlon goals.

What should I bring to my swimming lesson?

Please bring swimwear, a towel, and goggles if you have them. Goggles are recommended but not essential.

Can I reschedule my lesson?

You can reschedule or cancel your lessons by letting us know by 9pm the night before the lesson. Cancellation or no shows on the day will be charged.

Are your instructors qualified?

Yes. All of our instructors are fully qualified and experienced, with a strong focus on safety and effective swimming instruction.
